What is Bybit EU?

Bybit is originally a global crypto exchange focused on derivatives. For Europe a dedicated Bybit EU entity was set up in Vienna — including FMA registration and a MiCAR licence.

The EU version is more limited than the global platform (e.g. fewer derivatives) but in return offers regulatory certainty and a Vienna-based entity.

Fees

0.10% maker / 0.10% taker in spot trading — putting Bybit among the cheapest regulated providers in the EU. Volume discounts push that even lower.

SEPA deposits are free, credit card is significantly more expensive. Withdrawals cost a network fee depending on the coin.

Security

2FA, anti-phishing code and a withdrawal whitelist are available. Global Bybit suffered an ETH hack in 2025 — the EU entity was unaffected and all customers were compensated.

Coins are mostly held in cold storage. Reserves are regularly proven via Proof-of-Reserves.

Taxes in Austria

Bybit EU is tax-handled in Austria. The 27.5% capital-gains tax is withheld automatically on gains and remitted directly to the tax office — you don't have to file anything.

A tax report for FinanzOnline is available. Staking rewards are also taxed automatically.

Who is Bybit EU for?

  • Active traders who need low fees
  • Advanced investors who want EU regulation
  • Multi-coin investors with a larger portfolio
  • Not ideal for beginners without trading experience
How it works

How does Bybit EU work in practice?

Bybit EU is a standalone EU entity headquartered in Vienna — legally clearly separated from the global Bybit platform (Bybit.com). Accounts, balances and regulation run separately through the FMA-registered subsidiary Bybit EU GmbH.

During onboarding you go through a KYC verification via video ident (5–10 minutes). Once approved you can deposit via SEPA Instant and trade on a professional spot interface with order book. The coin selection at over 300 assets is significantly larger than Bitpanda Standard.

Compared to global Bybit, some products are restricted: derivatives (futures, options) and certain earn products are not available to EU users — a direct consequence of MiCAR compliance.

  • Onboarding: video ident, fully digital
  • Deposit: SEPA Instant, credit card (with surcharge)
  • Trading: spot order book with limit/market orders
  • Coins: 300+ spot pairs, mostly against EUR/USDT
  • Withdrawals: whitelist-capable, network fee per coin

Is Bybit EU reputable?

Yes — Bybit EU is reputable and officially regulated in Austria. The Vienna-based EU entity is FMA-registered and holds a full MiCAR licence. That puts Bybit EU under the same regulatory regime as Bitpanda — but with far lower fees.

Important to understand: Bybit EU is legally separate from Bybit Global. Even though the global platform suffered a high-profile ETH hack in 2025, the EU entity was unaffected. Segregated balances, a separate custody setup and FMA supervision provide a high level of safety specifically for Austrian customers.

Our experience with Bybit EU

In our test we used Bybit EU as a trading platform for mid-sized five-figure amounts. A clear positive: SEPA Instant deposits usually arrive within minutes; the spot trading interface is responsive and stable even in volatile markets.

Our experience with German-speaking support is mixed: written queries are usually answered within 24 hours, but phone support is missing entirely. For trading power users that's bearable; absolute beginners will miss the hand-holding service Bitpanda offers.

Plus on KESt: Automatic tax withholding worked flawlessly in our test. After every sale the KESt was correctly withheld and cleanly documented in the annual report. That makes Bybit EU one of the few trading platforms that are cheap AND tax-friendly for Austria — a combination almost no one else delivers.

Frequently asked questions about Bybit EU

Is Bybit EU legal and regulated in Austria?

Yes. Bybit EU is a standalone entity headquartered in Vienna, registered with Austria's FMA and fully MiCAR-licensed at EU level. Use in Austria is legal and protected by the same oversight rules as Bitpanda.

What is the difference between Bybit EU and Bybit Global?

Bybit EU is legally separate from Bybit.com. Balances, accounts and regulation run separately through the Vienna-based Bybit EU GmbH. The EU version has a more restricted product portfolio (e.g. fewer derivatives) but full EU compliance.

How high are the fees at Bybit EU?

In spot trading you pay a flat 0.10% maker and 0.10% taker — one of the cheapest regulated options in the EU. Volume discounts push that further down. SEPA deposits are free, crypto withdrawals cost only the network fee.

Does Bybit EU automatically remit the Austrian KESt to the tax office?

Yes. Bybit EU automatically withholds the 27.5% KESt on realised gains and remits it directly to the Austrian tax office. A FinanzOnline tax report is also generated automatically — you don't have to declare anything manually.

Was Bybit EU affected by the 2025 hack?

No. The 2025 ETH hack only affected the global Bybit platform. EU customer balances were never at risk because the custody structures are legally and technically separated. All affected users on the global platform were 100% reimbursed.

Is Bybit EU suitable for beginners?

Conditionally. The platform is built for traders and uses a classic order book with maker/taker pricing. For absolute beginners Bitpanda with its simple fixed-price logic is the better choice. Anyone who has bought crypto before will get to grips with Bybit EU quickly though.

Which coins can I trade on Bybit EU?

More than 300 spot pairs, mostly against EUR and USDT. All major coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, ADA, etc.) and a broad altcoin range are available — significantly more than at Bitpanda or Coinbase Standard.

What are the alternatives to Bybit EU in Austria?

For beginners, Bitpanda is the obvious alternative (simpler but more expensive). If you value the strongest security track record, Kraken is a great fit (0.16% Pro). For Bitcoin-only savings plans we recommend 21bitcoin from Tyrol.
